Head Teacher's Blog 17.06.24

16th June 2024

Our busy summer term is well and truly underway with lots of children enjoying activities beyond the classroom last week and more on the way in the week to come.

It was wonderful to welcome Cheryl Stewart and Susie Cochrane, old friends of ours, back into school on Friday afternoon to work with our Year 3 children as they begin their Wonderful World project entitled, The Air We Breathe. The children worked with so much enthusiasm and energy as they danced and sang their way through the afternoon. A reminder that only children attending the Playhouse performance will attend further sessions. If you haven’t filled in the Google form, or if you would now like your child to attend, please let us know your response by the end of the day on Monday, the response form will close after this.

A group of Year 4 children represented Swansfield at the School Games, held at the Alnwick Gardens on Friday. Mr Fordham-Scott and Liz report that the children were super sports and had great fun!

We had our final class family lunch of the year on Wednesday with our Oak class family and friends joining us for a roast. This was a really happy occasion, thank you to all who attended. We will be welcoming our Year 6 families in for a leaver’s lunch on Wednesday 17th July - sign up form will follow soon.

Let’s have a  look at the week to come:

  • Our Year 1 and 2 children are heading to Alnwick Castle on Monday as part of their castles topic. Please ensure that children have a waterproof coat - the showers seem never ending at the moment!

  • Apple Class kick off sports day season this week. We look forward to welcoming family and friends in on Monday 14.00 - 14.30, Tuesday 10.30 - 11.00 and Wednesday 14.00 - 14.30.  Please remember, we politely request that mobile phones are not used during this event and that no photos or videos are taken.

  • UKS2 children head to Eden Camp on Thursday. Please remember that children need to be at school for 08.00 and the estimated time of return is 17.30. We’ll keep you updated on the journey home. Again - don’t forget those waterproof coats!

  • Pear Class are looking forward to sharing their class assembly on Thursday. Family and friends are warmly invited to join us for a 14.30 start.

  • Year 3 children participating in The Air We Breathe head down to the Playhouse on Friday for a whole day of rehearsing alongside Embleton Primary School and Cheryl and Susie.

Let’s see who has been impressing this week as we take a look at our stars of the week. A huge well done to: Everly Blair, Carson Duffill, Jonny Evans, Bonnie Nicholson, Henry Knox, Alexis Hogg, Sidney Stansfield, Harry Beresford, Oliver West and Sofia Bonnett

In addition to this, Miss Thompson and Mrs O’Connell have awarded stars to all the Maples for working so hard on their times tables in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check.

We are very proud of you all.

As the Euros kick off, here’s the official theme song for everyone to enjoy. It’s called Fire and is a collaboration between OneRepublic, Meduza and Leony.
