Religious Education Intent statement, skills progression and policy
At Swansfield Park Primary School our intention of the Religious Education curriculum is to prepare all children to be educated citizens and develop an interest in a variety of religions, so that they can understand the world around them.
As a school we follow the current Northumberland Agreed Syllabus for RE. The syllabus states that “The principal aim of religious education is to explore what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that pupils can gain the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to handle questions raised by religion and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.” The curriculum for RE aims to ensure that all pupils:

make connections between religious and non-religious beliefs, concepts, practices and ideas studied
Our school curriculum engages, inspires, challenges and encourages children to explore different religious beliefs, values and traditions.
Children study in depth the religious beliefs and traditions of Christians, Jews, Hindus and Muslims as well as non-religious beliefs and world views.
We equip children with the knowledge and skills to answer challenging questions through our enquiry approach where children are encouraged to wonder about the world and reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.
We want them to know how religious education promotes discernment and enables children to combat prejudice, preparing them for adult life, employment and life-long learning in our multi-cultural society.
We adopt planning guidance from NATRE which ensures we deliver a fully covered curriculum.
