What a lovely weekend!
It’s been great to see the children enjoying our school grounds in the sunshine at playtimes. Following the lots of assemblies and reiteration of the key message to take care of each other, I can happily report that lots of children have been doing just that and the field and yards have been happier places as a consequence of thoughtful behaviour. We’re going to work to keep this up! Please do remember that the sun can be strong, especially at lunchtime, so sun hats, sun cream and water bottles are needed. Even if the weather doesn’t look great in the morning, this can quickly change so it’s good to bring these items every day during the summer term.
Lots to look back on from last week:
It was great to share family lunch with Team Chestnut on Wednesday, thank you to everyone who came to join us.
Sycamore gave us a wonderful class assembly on Thursday - showcasing their learning alongside a good helping of humour and some super singing too! Well done!
All of our LKS2 children headed to Alnwick Gardens on Friday as part of their recycling project. The children experienced lots of different strands of science and art from making their own spectrometer, to using electronic microscopes, painting with cabbage, using models to build different elements, using calligraphy to write names and lots more. I’m disappointed that I didn’t get to go - sounds great! A special thank you to our brilliant science lead, Miss Thompson, who has put so much time and work into organising this project alongside staff from Alnwick Gardens. The children's work is on display down at Alnwick Gardens and really is something to be proud of.
Our FOSP discos on Friday evening were a huge success. After listening to feedback from the Halloween events, our fabulous committee decided to put on three separate sessions to ensure that all age groups could have fun with lots of space and just the right amount of busyness. We feel that this format worked really well and will be a way forward for future events. Thank you so much to everyone who gave their time to help with organisation and to those who came along to support. I would also just like to say well done to all of the children who attended - you had great fun but you didn’t forget your manners or your best behaviour. Another occasion where I was proud to be your head teacher! We look forward to bringing you the total raised later in the week. Don’t forget that we have our summer fair on Saturday 6th July. Keep the date free.
To finish off the week, I found out via a ‘little bird’ that six of our ‘Swannies’ took to the stage at the Playhouse on Friday evening alongside the Dreamcoat Stars. Wow, what a wonderful experience. I also heard that you were absolutely magnificent - having the courage to sing in front of so many people, caring for each other backstage and being the curious children you are, always looking for new experiences. Very well done!

Our Year 6 children will be taking their SATs this week. They have worked very hard all year and we think they are fabulous young people. We know they are going to take next week in their stride and do their very best. They’ll have a tasty breakfast each morning to get their days off to a great start (thank you Tina and Nicola) and Friday will be here before we know it. If the sun shines, there might be a few games of rounders or cricket to finish the week off nicely!

We have offered our Y4 children the opportunity to become Playground Leaders and training for this important role will take place on Wednesday. Mrs Hatrick and Mrs Chambers will be leading this project in school and they will be joined by staff from School Sports Partnership.

On Friday, we are looking forward to welcoming Brother Khadim to school. Brother Khadim will be talking to the KS1 and LKS2 children about his Muslim faith. This will be a wonderful first hand experience for our children after learning about Islam in RE.
As always, we have some stars of the week to tell you about: Harmony Croud, Henry Frost, Jaxon McPartland, Bradley Saxton, Billy Grey, Charlie-Mae Nesbit, Fleur Hindhaugh, Georgia Short, Evie Coxford, Vincent Spence, Robyn Saxton and Chris Bridgens. We are very proud of you all!
I’d like to say a special well done to Billy, who not only impressed Mrs Smith with his knowledge of animals this week (especially their diets and poo - I think I need to pop in to see what’s going on in Oak class science lessons!) but also impressed me with his kindness and care when he saw how busy I was on Thursday and asked if he could help me. Billy was then the first person to add a block to our ‘kindness jar’ in assembly on Friday.
